Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s smiling stance with Russian President Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping at the recent S&S summit in China has disturbed many Western countries. But American political analysts were the most disturbed. World-renowned economist Jeffrey Sachs has advised India to immediately leave the US in the current situation. He further opined that China could prove to be a better economic partner. The same thing was said in an editorial in China’s leading newspaper, Global Times.
China is better for India than the US
According to various media reports, former UN Secretary-General’s advisor Jeffrey Sachs said in an interview with Janet Jacobs that Donald Trump’s tariff war is illegal and economically damaging. In the current situation, he suggested that India should exit the Quad organization and strengthen ties with BRICS. He said that India and China together lead 40 percent of the world’s population and both want to come out of Western influence. In such a situation, the two countries should jointly resolve their border dispute and China should jointly support India as the sixth member of the United Nations Security Council.
The Chinese state-run newspaper Global Times has also tried to ask India to stay away from the Quad in its editorial. The Global Times wrote, ‘In recent years, the trend of small groups or mentors based on a few countries has increased in international politics. An example of this is the US-led Quad, which includes the US, India, Japan and Australia. It was initially created to contribute to the security and safety of the Indo-Pacific region, but its fundamental weakness is that the organization’s purpose is to balance China.
India has emerged from US influence
The newspaper also said that the US is a country that does not make its allies thoughtfully, but keeps them with it for financial gain and its own benefit. As long as the US benefits, it maintains partnerships and then abandons them. Citing the heavy tariffs imposed on India, he said that this practice has been even more pronounced during the Trump administration. Jeffrey Sachs also said something similar. He had previously said that the US is only using India for its own benefit and can never see it progress.
