Following the NEET scam, an indefinite protest had been set up at Jantar Mantar under the banner of CJP since June, demanding appropriate compensation for families of innocent children who lost their lives and the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Prakash. Famous environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk was also sitting on a hunger strike in support of the students during this agitation. Following Monday’s violent protests, the Modi government sprang into action, and Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda held closed-door direct talks with a CJP delegation.
