If Lok Sabha elections are held today – Will Modi form the government again? – What does the survey report say?
……………………………………………………………………..
The next Lok Sabha elections are still far away, but the election atmosphere for the Bihar Assembly elections has completely settled down. Leaders of opposition parties including Congress and RJD are creating a ruckus by accusing the BJP government of ‘vote theft’. ‘A lot of water has flown down the Ganges’ since the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. There was an attack in Pahalgam. In response to this, the Indian Army wreaked havoc in Pakistani terrorist hideouts with ‘Operation Sindoor’. Then there was a ceasefire. The country and the world are also watching the ‘credit-seeking’ of America’s ‘Choudhary’ (Boss) Donald Trump and the additional tariff on India.
Overall, the atmosphere is such that if the elections are held now, the results of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections will not be the same as they were. The ruling and the opposition may have their own view on this.
These questions must be arising in the minds of the people that if the Lok Sabha elections are held today, will the results change or remain the same?
To know this, India Today Group has conducted a ‘Mood of the Nation’ survey. If this survey is to be believed, if elections are held now, the NDA will form the government, but there may be minor changes in the number of seats. For example – If elections are held today, the NDA, which won 293 seats in 2024, can win 324 seats. While the seats of the Congress-led opposition alliance are expected to decrease from 234 to 208.
What could be the party-wise result?
The survey estimates that if the Lok Sabha elections are held today, the BJP can win 260 seats. This is 20 more than the 240 seats won in 2024. However, even then the BJP will not get a majority and it will have to take the support of allies to form the government. On the other hand, the Congress, which won 99 seats in 2024, can win 97 seats with a slight loss of two seats if the elections are held today.
Still, this survey looks positive for the opposition. In the February ‘Mood of Nation’ survey, the Congress was getting only 78 seats, but it seems that Rahul Gandhi’s outspokenness on the issue of SIR or electoral fraud is proving to be a profitable deal for the Congress.
This survey is a matter of tension for the BJP because while the February survey had predicted that the saffron party would win a majority by winning 281 seats, it has shrunk to 260 in August. The number of seats of the NDA has also come down to 324 from the estimated 343 seats in the February survey.
How was the survey conducted?
This survey of ‘Mood of the Nation’ (MOTN) was conducted between 1 July 2025 and 14 August 2025, in which opinions were taken from 54 thousand 788 people from all the Lok Sabha seats. Along with this, 1 lakh 52 thousand 38 interviews of C-Voter’s regular tracker data were also included. That is, this report has been prepared on the opinion of a total of 2 lakh 6 thousand 826 people.
