Highlights – Trump didn’t win the Nobel Peace Prize…what can he do now?
US President Donald Trump’s dream of winning this year’s Nobel Peace Prize remained unfulfilled. Instead, Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado received the Nobel Peace Prize. Now that the announcement has been made, questions are being raised about Trump’s reaction.
…………………………………………………………………….
The 2025 Nobel Peace Prize was not awarded to US President Donald Trump. Instead, the award went to Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado. For many, it has become a matter of general knowledge as to who brought peace to the world. But for one of the world’s most powerful men, it’s not just a matter of peace, but also of prestige and self-respect.
Trump, who calls himself a peace-loving warrior and has claimed he would have received at least four or five Nobel Prizes, has once again returned empty-handed from this Nobel Prize gathering. In June 2025, he proudly declared, “I should have received five Nobels by now. But those who fear me are stopping me.” He even claims to have prevented eight wars during his second term. Now that Trump’s name has not been mentioned, the question is: what will his reaction be? It remains to be seen. His attitude offers some indication of his reaction. We will discuss some of these hints in this story.
1. The Argument of Insult to America
Donald Trump has already stated that if he does not receive the Nobel, it will be considered an insult not to him but to America. He is likely to call a press conference and declare that under his leadership, peace has come to the world and many wars have been prevented, but partisans do not want to see this. Experts believe that Trump will portray this rejection not as personal, but as a response to nationalist sentiments, as he has done on numerous occasions before.
2. Thawing in US-Norway Relations
Norwegian media has already discussed the possibility of straining relations between the US and Norway if Trump doesn’t receive the award. According to a report in The Guardian, Kirsti Bergsto, a member of the Norwegian Parliament, stated that Trump is unpredictable, and we must be prepared for any eventuality. Trump’s tendency to openly attack anyone he dislikes or criticizes is well-known. This is causing many in Oslo to feel uneasy.
Furthermore, Trump has previously threatened his allies with tariffs and economic sanctions. If he were to become enraged after the Nobel announcement, it could become a minor diplomatic headache for Norway, even though the government has no control over the Nobel process.
3. These 5 Nobel Committee Judges Could Be Targets
Now that Trump’s name is not included in the Nobel, a scathing attack on the members of the Nobel Committee is almost certain. Five members of the Nobel Peace Committee—Jørgen Friednes, Asle Toje, Ann Enger, Kristin Clemet, and Gry Larsen—have previously made their views clear about Trump.
For example, Clemet described Trump as a leader who undermines American democracy, while Larsen criticized his statements on women and human rights. Friednes also indicated that the committee does not make decisions under any political pressure. Asle Toje is the only member who has shown some leniency towards Trump. He even attended Trump’s inauguration this year.
4. Calling Norway a left-wing nation?
Trump’s political history shows that he never accepts defeat directly. He may have accused the Nobel Committee of being biased or politically motivated by not receiving the award.
5. Allegations of Conspiracy and a Rigged System
If Trump follows his past pattern, he could allege a conspiracy if he doesn’t win the Nobel. Like in the 2020 US elections, he could claim the system is rigged and that he was deliberately ignored. Such statements are seen as a strategy to strengthen his political base, where every defeat is attributed to an unfair system.
