Former US President Barack Obama said that approximately 80 percent of the world’s problems are due to the continued hold of power by older leaders. He sarcastically remarked that such leaders are putting their names on everything, even pyramids. Obama’s comment is being seen as a dig at 77-year-old Donald Trump.
64-year-old Barack Obama, speaking with British historian David Olusoga in London, said that it’s fair to say that 80 percent of the world’s problems are caused by older people holding power. He said that such leaders are unwilling to accept defeat. They build pyramids and put their names on everything. They are deeply concerned about this.
This comment comes at a time when US President Donald Trump recently defended the deployment of National Guard troops in Washington, DC. He said that extraordinary measures are necessary to curb the rising violent crime in the capital. President Trump stated, “I don’t like dictators. I’m not a dictator; I’m a reasonable and intelligent person.” This comment was a direct response to Trump’s opponents who accused him of behaving like a dictator.
Obama also made his first comments about older leaders.
