The world’s population is facing climate change. It is no longer enough to treat climate change as a scientific debate or a warning about a future crisis. It is time to abandon that view. It is time for us to face the challenges of the present. This crisis has now become a part of our daily lives. Its impact is clearly visible everywhere, from our kitchens to our sleeping and waking lives.
Food prices could double by 2035
. The continuous rise in temperatures has put agriculture and farming in a deep crisis. Droughts, unseasonal rains and frequent storms have adversely affected crop production. The direct impact of this is visible in the markets – vegetables, grains and other essential food items have become more expensive than ever before.
A recent report by the European Central Bank has revealed that if the current trend continues, food prices could double by 2035. According to the report, global inflation could increase by 0.5 to 1.2 percent per year. This means that in the next ten years, the direct impact of inflation will be felt first on people’s plates.
Sleep is also a victim of climate change
Not just food, climate change is now affecting the way people sleep and wake up. Rising nighttime temperatures are now the biggest obstacle to a restful night’s sleep.
A study conducted by Fudan University in China analyzed data on more than 20 million nights of sleep. The study found that if the nighttime temperature is 10 degrees higher than normal, the chances of not getting a good night’s sleep increase by 20 percent.
It is also estimated that by the end of this century, each person will lose an average of 33 hours of sleep per year. This is not just about China – if this trend of warming continues, this crisis will become a global crisis.
This is not just a warning, it is a state of affairs ahead of a warning
Climate change is no longer a problem of the future. It is a crisis of today, affecting everyone’s pocketbook, health and lifestyle. Now is the time to think seriously about it.
