President Trump’s efforts failed to stop Google, Sundar Pichai gave India a gift of $15 billion; will build an AI data hub.
President Donald Trump has repeatedly told American companies not to do business in India. Not to invest in India. But companies like Google, Microsoft, and Amazon didn’t listen to him. Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google’s parent company, Alphabet, has given India a big gift amid Trump’s threats. This gift is to build a data center.
Google’s parent company, Alphabet, will invest $15 billion to build an AI data hub in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. This facility, which will be located in the port city of Visakhapatnam, will be part of Google’s global network of AI centers spread across 12 countries.
“This is the largest AI hub we’re going to invest in anywhere in the world, outside of the United States,” Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian said at an event in the capital, Delhi, on Tuesday.
Google has partnered with the Adani Group and Airtel to build infrastructure for the project, including the construction of a new international subsea gateway.
India is becoming a major hub for AI data centers
This announcement comes at a time when US President Donald Trump is urging American companies to prioritize domestic investment. India is becoming a major hub for AI data centers. The country’s low data costs and rapidly growing internet user base have made it a hub for cloud and AI expansion for tech giants.
Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai said the facility will “bring our industry-advanced technology to enterprises and users in India, accelerate AI innovation, and drive growth across the country.”
Google’s AI Hub investment includes the construction of a new international subsea gateway, with multiple international submarine cables landing in Visakhapatnam on India’s east coast—connecting to Google’s more than two million miles of existing terrestrial and subsea cables. This gateway will help meet the country’s growing digital demands and provide route diversity to complement existing subsea cable landings in the Mumbai and Chennai areas.
Google will work with local partners to install new transmission lines, clean energy generation, and energy storage systems in Andhra Pradesh. Google has also partnered with the Adani Group and the Airtel Group for this.
“This project builds on both companies’ commitment to sustainability and will involve joint investments in new transmission lines, clean energy generation, and innovative energy storage systems in Andhra Pradesh. This will not only boost data center operations but also increase the capacity and resilience of India’s power grid,” the Adani Group said in a statement.
What did the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh say?
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said that the center will integrate hyperscale data center capacity, high-performance AI infrastructure, new large-scale energy sources, and an expanded fiber-optic backbone into a single location to provide low-latency, high-throughput services across the country. He said that the Google data center will create 188,000 jobs directly and indirectly and is in line with the Digital India and India AI missions.
