US President Donald Trump’s decision to impose a 50% tax on Indian goods is now indirectly going to be a blessing for India. It has started energizing the Indian people with patriotism and uniting them. Anger and resentment have been expressed against American brands across the country. The country, which had earlier shown its courage to China, is now preparing to respond to America. India has increased its economic strength in the last few decades and has decided to promote domestic products under the Atmanirbhar Bharat campaign. Efforts are underway to increase the share of domestic products in the Indian market under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
On the other hand, the American media has reported that Indians have taken Trump’s decision as an attack on the country’s sovereignty, which has made them fiercely anti-American and helped them unite.
American brands are being boycotted
After this US tariff decision, the enthusiasm for supporting Made in India has intensified in India. Both businessmen and ordinary people are raising their voices about boycotting foreign brands and giving priority to the country’s products. Support for Made in India is growing from social media to the streets.
India is a large and important market for American companies. The growing middle class and wealthy consumers here have long been crazy about international brands. Names like McDonald’s, Coca-Cola, Amazon, Apple are a part of daily life in India. WhatsApp also has the largest user base in India, while Domino’s has the largest number of restaurants here. In such a situation, if the boycott and dumping of American brands in India intensifies, then it can cause great harm to these companies.
Traders unite in support of Made in India
Now the voice of traders has been added in support of Made in India. Manish Chaudhary, co-founder of Wow Skin Science, encouraged farmers and startups in a video message and said that now is the time to make Made in India famous and widespread across the world. Giving an example, he said that just as South Korean food and beauty products have made a name for themselves in the world, Indian brands should also create their own unique identity.
DriveU CEO Raham Shastri wrote on social media that India should also create its own social media and tech platform like China, which can reduce our dependence on foreign services like Twitter, Google, YouTube and WhatsApp.
PM Modi’s emphasis on self-reliance
Recently, at an event in Bengaluru, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, without naming any company, said that Indian tech companies make products for the world, but now it is time to put the needs of the country first. His speech further strengthens the message of a self-reliant India in the current environment.
At the same time, the BJP-affiliated organization Swadeshi Jagran Manch recently held small demonstrations across the country and appealed to people to boycott American brands. Ashwani Mahajan, co-coordinator of the organization, said that people are now turning towards Indian products. This will definitely take time, but it is a call for patriotism and love for the country.
Domestic alternatives suggested
A graphic titled “Boycott foreign food chains” by Swadeshi Jagran Manch is being widely shared on social media, featuring the logos of several restaurant brands, including McDonald’s. At the same time, a list is also circulating on WhatsApp, suggesting domestic alternatives to Indian soaps, toothpastes and cold drinks.
