A close ally of US President Donald Trump and a Republican Party leader has made a disturbing statement about the Hindu god Hanuman. A 90-foot statue of Lord Hanuman stands in Texas, known as the “Statue of the Union.” The Republican leader has now commented on this very statue. The name of this close Trump aide is Alexander Duncan. Duncan, who described America as a Christian country, made the controversial statement about the statue of Hanuman.
Duncan’s Disturbing Statement, Received Response
Along with a video of the statue of Lord Hanuman located at the Shri Ashtalakshmi Temple in Sugar Land, Texas, Duncan wrote on the social media platform X, “Why are we allowing a false statue of a false Hindu god to be built here in Texas? We are a Christian nation.” Duncan’s statement has drawn widespread criticism on social media. The Hindu American Foundation has called the statement “anti-Hindu and inflammatory.” The group has also formally reported the statement to the Republican Party in Texas and asked them to take action on the matter. The Hindu American Foundation posted, “Hello @TexasGOP, will you discipline your party’s own Senate candidate who is openly violating your own guidelines against discrimination, displaying utterly disgusting anti-Hindu hatred?”
People reacted to Duncan’s statement
Meanwhile, many on social media also reminded Republican leader Alexander Duncan that the US Constitution gives him the freedom to practice any religion. It is the tallest statue of Lord Hanuman in North America and the third tallest in the US overall.
