Trump’s Arbitrary Policies Will Escalate the Global Nuclear Arms Race
It has been 31 days since the war between the US-Israel and Iran began. However, neither side is ready to back down. As usual, Trump is backtracking on his statements, but he remains adamant on one point: Iran must not possess nuclear weapons.
This single obsession has brought the world to a brink where a race to become a nuclear power is about to begin soon. This step by Trump has unleashed a nuclear genie that will be difficult to put back into the bottle.
Enriched Uranium with Iran
To achieve its goal, the US has previously attacked Iran’s nuclear sites. Trump claims that if Iran possesses nuclear weapons, there will never be peace in the Middle East. This fear of Trump’s is not merely a figment of his imagination.
According to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Iran has enriched 408.6 kilograms of uranium up to 60 percent. This much uranium is sufficient for use in 9 warheads. The IAEA also states that Iran has up to 200 kg of 20 percent fissile material, which can be easily converted into 90 percent weapon-grade uranium.
Iran Wants to Increase Its Strength
Iran has left no stone unturned in making itself powerful in the Middle East. It possesses about 2,500 ballistic missiles, the highest in the Middle East. It supports terrorist proxies throughout the region, which has enhanced its defense capabilities.
Experts say that although a US attack on Iran may slow down its nuclear ambitions for a while, if the regime there survives this war, it will become even more determined to acquire nuclear weapons, as it would be the only means left to ensure its survival.
World Troubled by Trump’s Arbitrariness
Iran’s madness alone is not responsible for these emerging conditions. The US, and especially Trump, has also left no stone unturned. First, the US entered into a nuclear treaty with Iran, and then Trump withdrew from it. Trump brought Iran to the negotiating table and then attacked it during that very period.
This sent a message to the world that it is futile to make an agreement with an arbitrary America, where any administration can renege on the promises made by its predecessor. For Iran, becoming a nuclear power is no longer just an attempt to reach an equal status with its enemies, but also a means to permanently silence the voices rising against the radical regime there.
Race Will Begin Across the World
This race to become a nuclear power is not going to be limited to Iran alone. Last week, North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un stated that the current situation in Iran justifies the decision North Korea made not to give up its nuclear weapons.
