Shafi Burfat, president of the Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz (JSMM), has written a letter to the global community. In it, he accuses Pakistan of committing injustice against the indigenous ethnic groups (Sindhis, Pashtuns, Balochs, Seraikis, and Brahuis) for decades. He stated that Pakistan has suppressed, marginalized, and curtailed the political rights of these communities in the name of religious unity.
In his letter to global leaders attending the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Burfat wrote, “As Pakistan’s Prime Minister and other representatives prepare to attend the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, the world should question Pakistan’s reality. This country was built on the oppression of its historical communities through deceit and manipulation in the name of religion.”
He alleged that Pakistani authorities are subjecting these “indigenous people” to severe political repression, economic exploitation, cultural destruction, demographic manipulation, and serious human rights violations. The JSMM leader claims that Pakistan is actually a country serving the interests of a dominant caste (Punjabis).

He stated, “The Pakistani military, intelligence agencies, and diplomatic corps are predominantly Punjabi. More than 99 percent of them maintain political and social dominance of this one group.” They wrote, “This concentration of power in the hands of a single caste has transformed Pakistan into a system that forces all other historically diverse communities into modern-day slavery and political repression. Those who speak of secular politics, national movements, or social justice face government-imposed restrictions.”
The letter stated that political activists, social workers, and social media activists are frequently arrested by the military and state agencies. They are tortured in secret locations, and sometimes their tortured and burned bodies are dumped in remote areas. Furthermore, the cultural heritage, languages, and history of these nations are being deliberately distorted or erased, a campaign of state-sponsored authoritarianism and brutality.
He appealed to the global community to recognize Pakistan as a “threat to the rights, culture, and existence of the historical inhabitants.” He warned that giving Pakistan a place on international platforms without accountability is legitimizing a system based on oppression, exploitation, and terror.
He called on the leaders of the UN General Assembly and member states to adhere to the principles of international justice, human rights, and equality among nations. He also demanded support for the legitimate struggle of oppressed nations for freedom and self-determination. The JSMM leader also said that Pakistan should be barred from speaking on any credible international platform due to its crimes, including supporting, training, and deploying extremist terrorists in the region as a matter of state policy.
