
Agencies are on high alert following the Delhi car blast. On November 12th, the central government convened a cabinet meeting in response to the incident. Several security-related decisions were made at the meeting. However, the most notable decision concerned the new appointment of Parag Jain, Director of India’s intelligence agency, Research and Analysis Wing (RAW).
In addition to R&AW, IPS Parag Jain has been given the additional charge of Secretary (Security) in the Cabinet Secretariat. This appointment is considered significant following the Delhi incident. Parag Jain played a key role in gathering ground intelligence during Operation Sindoor.
Who is IPS Parag Jain?
Parag Jain is a 1989 batch IPS officer of the Punjab cadre. He was appointed as RAW Chief on July 1, 2025. However, his appointment was announced on June 28th. Parag Jain has been involved in numerous counter-terrorism operations in Punjab. He has played a key role in operations in places like Bathinda, Mansa, and Hoshiarpur. He previously served as the SSP of Chandigarh and the DIG of the Ludhiana Range.
In intelligence circles, Parag Jain is also known as a “Super Spy.” Jain is said to possess expertise in both HUMINT (Human Intelligence), i.e., gathering intelligence through human intervention, and TECHINT (Technical Intelligence), i.e., gathering intelligence through technology.
RAW Director Parag Jain has been appointed Security Secretary in the Cabinet Secretariat.
