The Increasing violence and aggression among adolescents has become a matter of concern for the society. Anger and violent behavior over small things is becoming common among them. Family environment, social pressure and violent content shown in the media are increasing this tendency. Let us know the reasons for teenagers becoming violent.
Increasing anger and violence among adolescents causes, effects and solutions
…………………………………………………………………….
It is said in the scriptures that anger is man’s biggest enemy. It not only hollows out a person from inside, but also creates problems for the people around him. Nowadays, the problem of anger and violence is increasing rapidly among adolescents.
They lose their temper over small things and sometimes take such violent steps, which cannot even be imagined. In recent times, many such tragic incidents have come to light in India, where adolescents, in a fit of anger, even killed classmates or teachers. This is a serious social problem which needs to be thought about deeply.
Why is anger increasing?
……………………………………………………………………..
Recently, there have been reports of violent incidents by students in school campuses like Ahmedabad and Ghazipur. Where knives and other weapons were used in minor quarrels and students lost their lives. These incidents have shaken the society and raised the question as to why our teenagers are becoming so violent and aggressive. Adolescence is a delicate phase of life. During this period, physical and hormonal changes take place, which causes emotional turmoil.
Various Stressors – Lack of Love and Respect
………………………………………………………………….
Academic pressure, career worries, lack of respect from parents and teachers and pressure from friends or classmates – all these things put mental stress on teenagers. When this stress becomes unbearable, anger emerges as a natural reaction. Today’s lifestyle is also responsible for the increase in anger among teenagers. Due to the breakdown of joint families and excessive busyness, parents are unable to give enough time and attention to their children, due to which children feel disconnected and cannot express their feelings properly, which increases anger and frustration among them.
TV and OTT are triggers
……………………………………………………………
Nowadays, most of the time of teenagers is spent on TV and OTT platforms. Many of the programs shown in them are full of violence and negativity. Often the characters are seen being vandalized, using abusive language or getting violent in anger. Teenagers are affected by these scenes and consider this to be the only right way to express anger. They become desensitized to violence by watching constant violent content. Several studies have also shown that violent video games and films make children aggressive.
Internet and Trolling
…………………………………………………………
Along with this, trolling and bullying in the internet media and daily life also have a deep impact on the minds of teenagers. If they are a victim of it, then they may not talk to anyone openly about it, in such a situation a wave of emotions rises within them. An even more dangerous situation is when teenagers themselves threaten someone. Because it gives them negative self-confidence, in such a situation they do not even regret killing someone for their own pleasure. As was revealed in the Ahmedabad incident, when the chat of the accused teenager revealed that he did not even regret killing.
This is the solution
……………………………………………………………
There is a need to adopt a multi-pronged approach to deal with the problem of increasing violence among teenagers.
Role of Family
………………………………………………………………….
Parents should spend quality time with their children. It is very important to talk to them openly, listen to their problems and understand them. The atmosphere at home should be calm and positive. Not giving time to children by parents, not understanding their feelings and not focusing only on academic success also weakens them mentally. Parents should play a vital role in teaching them the difference between right and wrong and instilling moral values.
Role of School
………………………………………………………………….
Schools should focus not only on academic education but also on moral and emotional development. Students should be taught how to control their emotions and resolve problems peacefully.
Responsibility of Media
………………………………………………………………….
TV and OTT platforms should, realizing their responsibility, stop content that promotes violence. The government should also take steps to control the spread of violent content in the media.
Social Awareness
………………………………………………………………….
There should be an open discussion on this issue in society. Adolescents should be provided with mental health support and digital literacy should be promoted.
