The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is developing humanoid robots that can simulate soldiers on the battlefield and protect mtheir lives during dangerous missions.
According to official information, the Pune-based Research and Development Establishment (Engineers) laboratory is working on this project. The goal is to equip the Indian Army with these advanced robotic soldiers by 2027. These robots will reportedly possess human-like features and movements. They can be deployed in difficult terrain such as forests, mountains, and deserts.
Their unique capabilities include handling explosives and hazardous materials, as well as performing complex tasks such as defusing them, crossing obstacles, and opening doors and valves. Furthermore, they will be capable of walking, balancing, grasping, and carrying objects, much like humans. The robots will feature cutting-edge sensors and data fusion technology, enabling them to understand their surroundings. It will be equipped with lightweight arms with 24 degrees of freedom, allowing it to safely handle hazardous materials.
The robot will also have fall and push recovery capabilities, meaning it can recover from a fall or a push. Technical Features: This humanoid robot will operate both indoors and outdoors, day and night. It will have an audio-visual perception system, enabling it to see and hear. Furthermore, using Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) technology, it will be able to autonomously navigate and map in real time.
