The TV has always been a central part of the home, where the entire family gathers, chats, and enjoys entertainment. Now, Google has made the TV experience even smarter. Google TV now includes the company’s latest AI assistant, Gemini, which will not only follow commands but also interact with you.
Not just commands, now conversations too
Until now, using the Google Assistant has been easy, turning the TV on and off, finding shows, or controlling the lights. But Gemini for TV takes this step further. Now, you can have a free-flowing conversation with your TV. Simply press the remote’s microphone button or say “Hey Google,” and a whole new world of options will open up.
Finding your favorite show will be easy.
Gemini’s biggest feature is entertainment recommendations.
If you and your partner have different tastes, Gemini will find a middle ground. For example, ask, “I like drama, but my wife prefers comedy. Which movie should we watch?”
A new season of a series has arrived and you’ve forgotten the last one? Just ask, “What happened in Outlander last season?”
Even if you don’t remember the name, it’s okay. Ask, “What’s that new hospital drama everyone’s talking about?” Gemini will respond instantly and provide a review.
A new way to study and learn
Gemini isn’t just limited to finding shows. Now, TV will also help your child study or learn new skills.
Ask for a school project: Explain to a third-grade student why volcanoes erupt.
If you want to pursue a hobby, ask, “How do I start playing the guitar?”
If you want to make kitchen work easier, ask, “Tell me a dessert that can be made in less than an hour.”
Gemini will not only answer the question but also show you YouTube videos, making learning easier.
Which TVs will get the feature?
Currently, this feature is available on the TCL QM9K TV. It will then roll out to several new devices by the end of the year—such as the Google TV streamer, Walmart’s 4K streamer, the Hisense U7/U8/UX, and the TCL QM7K/QM8K/X11K models coming in 2025.
Google’s Big Bet on AI
Google is bringing AI to everything, not just TVs. Recently, the company introduced Gemini to the Chrome browser, launched Veo 3 AI video tools for YouTube creators, and now has also equipped TVs with AI.
Although this transition has come with challenges, such as declining publisher traffic, the proliferation of AI-generated content on the internet, and the threat of deepfakes, Google’s market value has reached record levels. The company recently became the fourth company to reach a valuation of $3 trillion.
