

National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate C.P. Radhakrishnan has been elected as the new Vice President of India. The post of Vice President fell vacant after the resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar.
In the Vice Presidential election held today, Radhakrishnan got 452 first preference votes and the opposition All India Alliance candidate Justice Sudarshan Reddy got 300 first preference votes.
After the counting of votes, Rajya Sabha Secretary General P.C. Modi announced the results.
According to Mr. P.C. Modi, a total of 788 voters were eligible to vote in this election, out of which 781 participated. The voting percentage was 98.2%. A total of 767 votes were cast, out of which 752 were valid. C.P. Radhakrishnan secured 452 votes while his rival Sudarshan Reddy secured 300 votes. As a result, he won the election by a margin of 152 votes.
Born in Tamil Nadu, Sri Radhakrishnan took oath as the Governor of Maharashtra on July 31 last year. Prior to that, he was the Governor of Jharkhand. He was the Tamil Nadu BJP President from 2004 to 2007.
