China is spying through LinkedIn
Intelligence agency MI5 has issued an alert regarding two female spies. These women are trapping ‘goats’ using LinkedIn, and people are being swindled at the first glimpse of them. They have trapped several MPs. Both the accounts and the names of these women have been revealed. One word is repeatedly repeated: ‘head hunter,’ meaning a recruiter of candidates.
How are Chinese spies operating through LinkedIn ?
British intelligence agencies have issued an alert about a new threat emerging in the country, claiming that China is spying on our Parliament. Speaker of the UK Parliament, Lindsay Hoyle, issued a message to MPs, stating that the Chinese Ministry of State Security (MSS) is continuously attempting to reach our people.
The goal of these spies is clear: to recruit people in key positions in Westminster to extract sensitive information about Britain’s national security, military capabilities, and government policies.
These two LinkedIn accounts were marked.
Security Minister Dan Jarvis stated that preparations are underway to take action against these spies, which could cost millions of pounds. The alert issued in Britain names two “head hunters.” One is Amanda Qiu, who, according to her LinkedIn account, works for BR-YR Executive Search. The other is Shirley Shen, who works at Internship Union. Both were posing as agents of the Chinese MSS and attempting to trap British MPs through their LinkedIn profiles.
MI5 has warned that these head hunters may target and recruit government employees. They may be lured with hefty salary packages.
What will happen to the trapped victim?
MI5’s instructions are clear and straightforward, stating that these fake ads on LinkedIn are just the beginning. Anyone caught in the trap will be directed to an encrypted platform where they will be asked to provide non-public and confidential reports. Payments will be made in cryptocurrency. Furthermore, the duped individual could be sent to spy for Beijing in a non-Western country.
A spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in the UK responded to the matter by stating, “These claims by the UK are completely fabricated and malicious. We strongly condemn such reprehensible actions by the UK side and have lodged a strong protest with them. We urge the UK side to immediately withdraw these false allegations.”
