OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has once again made a bold statement about the future of artificial intelligence (AI). While accepting the Axel Springer Award, he warned that AI systems are evolving faster than expected and will soon completely transform human society.
AI’s ‘Superintelligence’ Level by 2030
AI’s development is so rapid that it will achieve unprecedented capabilities within the next few years. Altman candidly admitted, “GPT-5 is already smarter than me and many people.”
He believes that by the end of the coming decade, AI could reach scientific breakthroughs that humans alone cannot achieve. He said it would be shocking if by 2030 we don’t have models that can perform tasks beyond humans.
Problem Solving
AI could reach a level of superintelligence, allowing it to solve problems that humans cannot handle on their own.
The Biggest Threat to the Job Market
Altman warned that the biggest anif mmediate impact of AI will be on the job market. He predicts that this technology could automate 30% to 40% of tasks in the coming years, meaning many existing jobs will be eliminated.
The Need for New Roles
However, this will also lead to the emergence of new roles. Altman emphasized that the most important thing for humans will be to develop meta-skills like “learning how to learn.”
The Third Revolution in Computing: AI-Based Devices
Altman indicated that OpenAI is not limited to software but is also moving into hardware.
New Devices: The company is considering developing AI-based devices that will go beyond traditional apps and notifications.
Task Management: These devices will provide fully AI-powered task management for humans. He described this as the third major revolution in computing, the next major change after keyboards and touchscreens.
Human Values and Future Leaders
On the ethical aspects of growing AI, Altman said it’s crucial that technology always be consistent with human values to avoid adverse consequences.
Parenting Advice: Speaking about his new parenting journey, he said he wants his son to grow up with skills like creativity, flexibility, and adaptation.
AI in Politics: He also added that in the future, leaders and politicians will rely more heavily on AI, although the major and final decisions will always be made by humans.
OpenAI claims its primary goal is to keep technology safe, ethical, and human-centered.
