Never did anyone imagine the way equations in national politics and parliament have changed over the past month. Could any anti-BJP or anti-NDA party or leader have thought that as soon as the West Bengal election results came out, Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress would fracture and 20 out of its 28 Lok Sabha members would form a separate group and announce support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government ?

The beginning of this sequence started with the joining of seven Rajya Sabha members of the Aam Aadmi Party into the BJP. Resignations of TMC Rajya Sabha members are also taking place. In a way, Mamata Banerjee no longer has any control over the Trinamool itself. Uddhav Thackeray’s remaining Shiv Sena is also slipping out of his hands.

In recent days, six of his MPs went over to the NDA. Earlier too, some MPs and MLAs have left one party for another, but such an event has never happened before in national politics. An atmosphere has been created where top leaders of many parties live in fear day and night, not knowing how many of their MPs or MLAs might suddenly announce leaving to join the other side.

At first glance, it seems that the BJP is covertly preparing leaders for defection, but is this the truth?

Even though the Congress and other parties blame the BJP, all those who are working against the changing collective national psyche and current should be frightened by this process.

The opposition’s allegation that the BJP has created this situation through pressure from the ED, CBI, Income Tax, and other agencies cannot be accepted. Such a large number of MPs and MLAs leaving years of association to directly join the BJP-led alliance cannot be considered a normal phenomenon. Among them, how many are MPs and MLAs against whom corruption cases are pending ?

Out of all the MPs and MLAs, very few have serious cases of corruption or crime. In the changing sequence of events, the steps taken by Sharad Pawar and Supriya Sule showed that they turned out to be the wisest among all. Had Sharad Pawar not given an indication of going with the NDA, six out of his eight MPs and all ten MLAs would have left him.

However, Sharad Pawar took quite a long time in understanding the changing politics, public sentiment, and current at the national level. Had he understood earlier and not lived in the dream of the Maha Vikas Aghadi or INDIA bloc, his party would have remained united and he would have been considered the supreme leader.

The incident of MPs and MLAs breaking away is also being linked to the fall of the 131st Constitution Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha on April 17th. That is, fear has been generated inside the opposition party MPs that if we did not support the 33 percent reservation for women and went into opposition, we would never win, but to assume that MPs and MLAs are coming to the BJP or the NDA solely for this reason would be a simplistic analysis of the entire situation.

Regarding Bengal, it can be said that the party coming to power there stays for a long time and the preceding ruling party is almost wiped out. Therefore, MPs and MLAs who feel that the time of the Trinamool Congress is now over are leaving it. Although this could also be a reason, it is not the complete one.

Many times, in the analysis of immediate results or events, we ignore many facts. Actually, the 2014 election result was an indicator of a epoch-making transformation in Indian politics. The strong role of national sentiment was clearly visible in it, and with ups and downs, this single factor has ultimately played a major role in the BJP’s victories ahead.

In Bengal, a very large section of Hindus voted in favor of the BJP, rebelling against Mamata Banerjee’s Muslim-appeasing and anti-Hindu politics. The opposition made a wrong assessment of the 2024 Lok Sabha election results according to its own narrative. Rahul Gandhi stated that we defeated the Ayodhya movement.

Akhilesh Yadav kept taunting the BJP by seating Awadhesh Prasad, the MP from there, at the front in the Lok Sabha. There was a reaction to this across the country, which later clearly manifested in the election results ranging from Maharashtra and Haryana to Delhi.

No one is entirely satisfied with any government, nor does it only have achievements to show, but Prime Minister Modi’s policies have changed the character of social justice, and its benefits have reached common people, with women leading the way. Opposition parties opposed the Waqf Amendment Bill for the sake of Muslim votes. The message sent to voters was negative. The feeling is deepening in the minds of people that the BJP, whatever it may be, ultimately stands for Indianness. Opposition parties will not be able to ensure our religion, culture, civilization, heritage, India’s identity, and along with all these, our security. Opposition leaders who fail to understand this process are weakening their own party.
